The butterfly’s turquoise color (left wing) represents the citizens of Gwacheon.
Its blue color (right wing) represents the people around the world.
Its orange color (circular dotted line) represents Gwacheon, which is growing together with
people around the world, expressing its aspiration to become a first-class city.
Chestnut Tree
It is a deciduous forest tree of the Fagaceae family grown in the mountains, and cultivated as a fruit tree. Its height is 6-15 m, and its grain-shaped flower blooms in the early summer. Its nut, which is its fruit, ripens in the early autumn. Its wood is hard, and is mainly used for timber and construction. Its nutritious fruits are used for food and medicine.
Azalea
It is a deciduous forest tree of the Heath family, and it blooms funnel-shaped pink and white flowers similar to those of rhododendron in the spring. However, they cannot be eaten because of a sticky liquid. The flowers bloom together with their leaves in May. The petals have reddish brown spots, and the white flowers are called white azaleas.
Pigeon
A pigeon belonging to the Columbidae of the Columbiformes, and has a homing instinct to visit its home from afar. It symbolizes stability and peace among the people. There are five types of wild pigeons in Korea, including eastern rock pigeon, wood pigeon, collared turtle dove, Japanese green pigeon, and red turtle dove. The pure breed of domestic pigeons, eastern rock pigeons, do not reside in foreign countries. They are called Goryeo pigeons, and wood pigeon is a rare resident bird designated as the Natural Monument No. 215.
Horse
It belongs to the mammals of the Equidae, and gives a strong impression with its vibrant energy, excellent reflexes, resilient muscles, and the sound of a galloping hooves. As an animal that symbolizes "advancement" and "leaping forward," it presents the vision of "strength" and "dynamism," and "a new leap toward the future" of Gwacheon City.
